LSS 2021 Instructions

LSS 2021 : RACE DAY INSTRUCTIONS

The Last Strider Standing 2021 is nearly upon us! The team have been working hard to put it all together and are looking forward to seeing you all there on Saturday 4th September. The first loop starts at 12 noon – prior to this you will need to collect your race number from Hannah’s office in the Bunkhouse and grab a place in one of the marquees. Gates open 9am. Allow sufficient time.

Please write your emergency contact’s name and number on the reverse of your bib along with any medical conditions you may have.

  1. Parking : we will be using the overflow car park adjacent to the gatehouse cabin. National Trust staff will direct you. It’s only a short walk to the Bunkhouse. No parking at the bunkhouse itself unless by prior arrangement.
  2. Payment : Those entered in the competition are already paid for. Any passengers / spectators should donate £1 to the National Trust gatehouse cabin staff please.
  3. Facilities : we have hired the Bunkhouse which has a fully equipped kitchen, fridge and microwave which you can use at any time. The toilet block and shower facilities will also be open.
  4. Marquees : available for all to use for changing / rest/ shelter / kit storage and fold away chair if you are bringing one. Could we ask that those only intending on a small number of laps give space priority to those there for the long haul.
  5. The Course : the course is a mix of gravel path, narrow rocky track, grass and mud so appropriate footwear is essential. Expect puddles of water. The course will be sign-posted and starts and finishes at the Bunkhouse. You may wish to stay with the pack for the first loop for familiarisation. On the outbound there is a 180 degree turn around a cone, the path is narrow so keep left. The course is not marshalled.
  6. Weather / Clothing : plan for the weather conditions. We will share the forecast nearer the time. Wear clothing suitable to your needs and the conditions. Those there for the long haul will need spare running gear / footwear and head-torches.
  7. Hydration and Nutrition : it is the entrants responsibility to bring sufficient suitable food and to hydrate properly throughout this endurance event. Also bring any medications, blister plasters etc you feel you may need.
  8. First Aid : Ambutran will have a medic on site for the event duration. Report any incidents or injuries to the race director and medic. The race director can withdraw an entrant at their discretion / on medical advice. Decision final. If you have a medical condition please write this on the back of your race number. It is recommended you remain on the premises for an hour minimum after you finish your loops.
  9. Hours of Darkness : at the director’s decision the wearing of a head torch or other personal lighting will become mandatory. Ensure you have sufficient battery power available.
  10. The 1st Shift Race Manager is Hannah Robinson. Taking over at 8pm for the night shift will be Andrea Cairns & Stuart Blair. If you plan to have your phone with you please add the race manager’s numbers to assist with communication in the event of an emergency.
