More Mud and MoRunning

Posted: 29/11/2019

On Saturday 23rd November Scrabo Striders Running Club headed to Co Antrim to continue their participation in the Cross Country League.  Another few days of rain had created a very muddy course at Sixmilewater Park, Ballyclare for the Malcolm Cup.

The Annadale Striders promoted event saw Ladies and Male veterans complete 3 miles and U20 and Senior Men 4miles.

First Scrabo Strider across the line and second in his age category was Norman Mawhinney (19:32) who had recently returned from representing Northern Ireland in the NI Cross Country team running at Aintree last weekend.  Next Strider in and another M60 was Paul Sheldon in 22:05, followed by wife Lynn Sheldon in 23:59.  Next three ladies crossing the line were Barbara McKechnie (24:20), Liz Turton (25:55) and Fiona McAvoy (25:01).  Trying not to get stuck in the mud (or lose a trainer) and completing in under 30mins were Dawn Ross, Amanda Martin, Martina Finn, Linda Dugan, Sonya Summersgill and Phillippa Wilson.  Completing the female striders across the line were Cheryl Alexander, Karen Thompson, Catherine Dobbin and Elaine McGonigal.

Next up the men, and James Lappin was first Strider across the line in 26:12, followed by Norman Mawhinney in 27:51, who obviously hadn’t had enough mud in the veterans category.  David Stevenson was next in 28:10.  Colin Harper, Graeme McGowan, Abrar Hossain, Peter McGonigal all finishing before the clock hit 32mins.  Looking forward to a hot shower and rounding up the Striders finishers were Manny Farrelly, Ben Stocks, Marty McConnell, Karl Henderson and Michael Brown.

Better get those trainers scrubbed up for next month’s Cross Country races.

Saturday mornings are all about Park Runs and Amanda Martin celebrated the massive achievement of 100 Park Runs at Comber on Saturday.  After running the 5k Amanda enjoyed some well-deserved cake before heading to Ballyclare for the Cross Country.  Supporting Amanda at Comber Mark Leathem achieved a personal best (PB) of 23:42 and on the same course Caroline Dwyer got a PB with 25:34.  Over at Stormont Jacqueline Magee achieved a PB of 28:17.  Congratulations and Well Done to Amanda on her 100th achievement, those getting PBs and to those that did Park Run before the Cross Country.

MoRunning is celebrating their 10 year anniversary and three Striders joined many other MoBro’s and MoSista’s at Stormont to run 5k or 10k   Good fun, lots of laughs, loads of smiles, high fives and not forgetting the fancy dress and funny moustaches created a fabulous atmosphere for this annual event.  Kelly Houston completed the 5K in 43:53 and running the 10K Bill McGucken and George Cash crossed the finish line together in exactly 1hr.

Well Done to all running this weekend.
