Striders Weekly Update 20/04/2022

Thursday saw the return of the Hill and Dale series, kicking off with Race 1 at Castlewellan. Three striders participated in an 8km race around forest paths. James Lappin was the first strider home (38.54), followed by Paul Donaghy (44.48) and Naomi Montgomery (55.27). The Hill and Dale Series is a fantastic series of races that are off road, the next one is Tollymore on the 21st April.

Manchester to Liverpool is a 50 mile ultramarathon, Andrea Cairns set off during the early hours of Good Friday 15th April, running it in an impressive 11 hours 9 minutes and 21 seconds.

Saturday was perfect running conditions for 71 striders making their way to 16 different locations. With runners travelling to Comber all the way to Monaghan, there were many impressive achievements. Three Striders achieved personal bests, Clare McIlveen (25.57), Amelia Henderson (36.26) and Ben McCracken (24.23). Catherine Cauley was first female at Crawfordsburn (22.51)  Liam Rodger has challenged the striders at these park runs, a great incentive to get out there and have fun! With a huge conga line over the finish lines at both Stormont and Comber, we know how to have fun!

This weekend saw the return of the Annual Easter Egg drop, now a tradition, it has become extremely popular amongst the club with members running at least 4 miles and delivering goods to another club member. With over 50 members taking part, there will be full bellys on Sunday!

On Saturday, Norman Mawhinney completed the Beragh 5 mile in 33.06, this is a race apart of the Fibrus 5 series. Norman is currently in 1st place in the rankings, well done Norman!

On Easter Sunday, 16 striders took to the streets supporting the Ballygalget 5k/10k. Louise Barnes finished as 2nd Female in the 5k race. Luke Braniff, after running and finishing 2nd place in Junior Parkrun came in 1st place in the 5k, great running from everyone. The Striders run a social run on  Fridays at 6.30pm and Sundays at 9am from the square and followed by a coffee, with a variety of distances, everyone is catered for. We meet in Londonderry Park on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.15pm.
