Striders Weekly Update 25/05/2022
“Strider Sister Act clean up at Baronscourt”
On Thursday 19th May, Naomi Montgomery rocks around the Rocky Hill and Dale race in an impressive 59.50, this is race number 5 of the series, the next race being June 2nd.
On Saturday 21st May, Gaithouse held an endurance race and 5/10k trail races in the picturesque Baronscourt. In the 10k, Norman Mawhinney finished in 40.57, followed by Peter McGonigal (1.11) & Elaine McGonigal (1.11). Sonya Summersgill and Judith Boyd took on the 12 hour challenge, both completing 14 laps and covering 74 km. Not only that, but they also both took the crown for joint first female finishers, well done ladies!
A massive number of striders took to various ParkRuns from Bangor to Hackney Marsh Parkrun in London, you will always find a strider! Bangor had 40 striders in attendance, with Connor McNamara completing his 100th park run and he also ran a course PB. Five striders achieved pbs over the weekend at park runs. Michael Johnston 20.51, Gary Clarke 23.12, Jenny Taylor 24.04, Phoebe Coey 32.26 and Martin Strachan 17.37. Well done to those volunteers at these park runs, it wouldn’t happen without you! James Lappin faced the Annalong Horseshoe, a challenging route with 2000m elevation, completing the course in an impressive 2.51.35, well done James.
Junior park run had 16 participants, all at Comber Parkrun! Bobby McGonigal ran a PB of 09.04. We had Luke Braniff and Ethan Lappin in 2nd and 3rd place. Then Eva Coey came in 1st female and Faye Alexander in 3rd female. Excellent running to all juniors, and well done to those who volunteered.
Numerous striders faced the Stormont hill to raise vital funds and spread awareness for Cancer Research in the Race for Life 5k and 10k, embracing the pink attire rather than the purple for once.Well done to all involved. Alongside the buzz of races we have two social runs where members of all abilities are encouraged to come and run a variety of distances, followed by a coffee and a treat. The social runs are great to meet new people, why not come along? Fridays at 6.30pm from the square and Sundays 9am from the square. If that isn’t enough, we hold a trail run on Sunday evenings, for all abilities. There is something for everyone in the Scrabo Striders, give it a go and you might get the bug.
