Striders have a spring in their step!
Scrabo Striders put a Spring in their step at local running events
Congratulations to all members who participated in the Subway 10K and Half Marathon events on Sunday April 2nd. The runs start and finish at Holywood Exchange in East Belfast, raising funds for MS research. Seven took part in the 10K and first home was Nicola McNamara and Curtis McCaw for the ladies and gents respectfully. Then came Jared Martin, Nigel Martin, Connor McNamara, Justin Clegg and Neil McCormick. The Half Marathon (13.1 miles) was completed by Jonny Kinney, Shannon Clegg, Garry Cavill and Graeme McGowan, with Garry recording a personal best over this distance. Well done all. Worthy of note is that Graeme had run the Omagh Half Marathon the previous day!
On Wednesday 29th March the Queen’s 5k Race took place on a unique course around the River Lagan. We are pleased to say 10 of our Striders took part, with Sheena Crone home first for the ladies and Jonathan Wray first for the gents. Then followed Emmanuel Farrelly, Gary Hunsdale, Colin Harper, Alan Steen, Toni Kisimova, Karen Farrelly, Suzy Cavill Gill and Caroline Richardson. What a great way to spend a Wednesday evening!
Of course no running week is complete without mentioning Parkrun. On Saturday 1st April Mark Leathem and Angie Crone ran at Stormont and Curtis McCaw, Sara Amanda Martin, Jared Martin, Nigel Martin and Linda Dugan all ran the Comber event at Parkway. Our biggest attendance, 12 #purplepower people, was at the Bangor Parkrun where first for the ladies was Lynn Sheldon and first gentleman home was Paul Sheldon (a true running partnership). Next in was Mervyn Kinney, Sharon Andrews, Carol Bailie, Ian Frazer, Mick Honeyman, Jimmy Andrews, Nicola McNamara, Steven Craythorne, Carleen Seeger and Janice Irvine. The committee are very pleased to see our club well represented.
