Weekend Results 10th and 11th June
Well done to four members who completed the Enniskillen 10K this weekend. Scot Knight, Denise Knight, Nikki Keery and Rhonda Magowan completed the challenge in good times and introduced Scrabo Striders to west of the province running clubs.
Steven McCormick ventured further afield to run the Newcastle Upon Tyne Parkrun and Mark Leathem visited Tooting Common Parkrun in London.
The Fairhill (Ballymena) 5 mile road race took place on Wednesday 7th June where Tina Miller posted a very impressive time.
Heading off road, Kieran McNamara and Nigel Martin completed race nine of the Hill & Dale series at Lough Shannagh on Thursday 8th. Hill and dale is as challenging as it sounds, with athletes being timed to the summit as well as the descent over rough terrain.
Of course no running week is complete without mentioning the Saturday Parkruns. At Ward Park in Bangor the club had ten entrants where Curtis McCaw came in first for the gents with a personal best, then Lynn Sheldon for the ladies. Followed closely by Paul Sheldon (another personal best), Mervyn Kinney, Chris Stevenson, Carol Bailie, Megan Adams, Barry Tate, Wendy Thompson and Nicola McNamara.
At Parkway in Comber nine Striders took part. First lady home was Caroline Smyth with a new personal best and first gent was Nigel Martin also with a new personal best. Great running. Then followed Gary Hunsdale (first timer), Mark Halus, Paul Moore, Sheena Crone, Sharon Hunsdale (PB), Lesleyann Morrow (PB) and Victoria Wightman. Lorraine Adams ran the Stormont Parkrun and Catherine Lavery ran Victoria in east Belfast.
The Club has now launched youth training nights, every other Monday night on the all-weather hockey pitch at Londonderry Park. These sessions are professionally coached by Eugene Moleon and are available for kids from 7 years and up for a very modest fee. The first session had over 40 kids in attendance and coincides with Monday night club training 7:15 – 8:15pm. The next youth coaching night is the 19th June.
Next up we have Comber 10K organised by the Ballydrain Harrier and Athletic club, on Friday 16th June. This very popular local race is a flat and fast course and the Club is expecting over 50 Striders to take part. Hopefully we will bring a lot of support with us too.
Training for the Ards half marathon at the end of June continues, with the Sunday morning running group putting in some impressive distances and enjoying a well-earned coffee and snack in the town square afterwards. If you would like to get some distance under the belt before the Half, the group will meet again this Sunday 9 am, the square.
