Scrabo Globetrotters and a race win

With the road running season well underway another busy week for Scrabo Striders and with our runners running in locations from Tokyo to Amsterdam and various locations in between.

First up was Saturday and Karen Collins making the trip to Carlingford for the annual half marathon and she ran a great time of 1.46.13 on a very scenic and hilly course.

Not too far away David Morton and Nicola Forsythe ran Bundoran 10 mile in times of  1.55.53 and 1.56.46 respectively and it was a 10 mile on for David.

Next up on Sunday was Bohermeen Half Marathon in County Meath in which current club captain Matt Bell was joined by former club captain Andy Haylett and Max Burton and all 3 were in fantastic form with Matt and Max achieving half marathon pbs with times of 1.22.49, 1.23.29 and 1.23.49 respectively.

Next up was race 2 in the junction running spring series  and the distance this time was 5K and in the elite race Norman Mawhinney recorded a time of 19.55 to be first male 65. In the open race we had 3 runners competing with Trevor Woodside getting an overall race win in 18.46 and Alyson Graham recorded a 5K on in a time of 25.53 and finishing off proceedings was Clare McIlveen running a time of 27.48 well done to all.

In the final race of the weekend Martin Oakman travelled to Nottingham for the 10K and recorded a time of 1.05.28 great running representing the club at this big event.

The weekend wouldn’t be complete without Parkrun and we had Angie Crone and Richard Murray at Shingashigawa Ukima in Japan and Kim Cochrane in Amsterdam and the McNamara’s at Brooklyn Bridge. A little closer to home former club captain Michael Burgess continued his tour with another Welsh parkrun.  In total we had 54 striders at 17 different events so congratulations to all.

If you like the sound of all of this you are very welcome to join us and see what it’s all about. Our sessions range from Monday to Thursday 7.15 mainly at LDP with main sessions Monday and Wednesday and progression group sessions Tuesday and Thursday. Our social run sessions are non coach led meeting at Conway Square 6.30 Friday evenings and Sunday Morning 9am.
