STRIDERS SHINE AT RATHLIN

Four Scrabo Striders members made the trip to Rathlin Island on 4 July to take part in the challenging Rathlin Lighthouse Challenge, it is not just a 16 mile foot-race; it’s a journey through time, rugged beauty, and maritime heritage.  Alison Busby was the club’s first finisher in an excellent time of 2:26:20, followed by Amanda Martin in 2:42:21. Judith Boyd and Mark Halus both completed the demanding course in 2:50:00. Congratulations to all four runners on their impressive performances in this unique and scenic event.

Also, this weekend while on holiday in Canada, father and son members Dave and Matthew Stevenson completed the The Limberlost Challenge through trails of Ontario in Canada.  Matthew finished 7th overall and was 2nd in his age category in the 7km race while his dad Dave was 10th overall winning his age category in the 14km race.

Also, this week saw striders attend local parkrun.  We had 51 club members at 14 different venues, including Bangor, Stormont, Waterworks, Comber, Belfast Victoria, Ballymena, Lurgan Park, Ormeau, Pomeroy Forest and Rostrevor.

Ormeau was popular with our Junior members this Saturday as they attended the Parkrun as part of their 8 strides series, junior members who attended were Harry and Calum McCready, Faye Alexander, Iona Chanas and Lydia Blair.

Away from Northern Ireland Karen Collins, Simon and Elijah Ferguson took on Southampton Parkrun.  Stephen Herron attended Navan Parkrun, Rachel Lyttle was in Ifield Mill Pond and Mark Leathem went to Ards Forest Parkrun in Co. Donegal.

Closer to home on Saturday in Comber saw Caroline Dwyer achieve her 50th parkrun along with 12 other striders.  Caroline completed her 5k in a time of 24.37.  Congratulations Caroline!
