Striders Weekly Update 15/07/2026
More Parkrun Tourism, More Races, More fun

To start of the week, Craig Simpson and Emma McCracken were announced as June’s member of the month. Craig and Emma have been working very hard increasing their mileage and completing various races. Club Captain George McGonigal awarded Craig with this award, he said “Craig has enjoyed an outstanding few months representing Scrabo Striders. After successfully completing the Belfast Marathon, he turned his attention to endurance events with impressive results and a new distance PB. At Florida Manor Craig competed in the twelve-hour event and completed 20 laps, covering 48.47 miles.He followed this with 23 laps and 49.14 miles at The Argory twelve-hour dusk til dawn challenge before securing second male placement at Saintfield Striders' Festival of Running, covering 28.25 miles in six hours. Craig also volunteers regularly as a Coaching Assistant with the club’s Junior Section. A very worthy recipient of June’s Member of the Month.”
Club Captain Nicola Forsythe awarded Emma McCracken with this award, she said “Emma has been extremely busy during the month of June starting out at beginning with CS Lewis 5 mile race followed the next day by striders anniversary race. Then next it was comber 10k followed by Ards half marathon where Emma secured a cpb. Emma also attends Stormont parkrun every week and when she isn't doing that she is helping out with our couch to 5k programme. A very worthy recipient of June's Member of the Month.”
Massive congratulations to you both!
On Sunday, Alyson Graham and Jenny Taylor travelled to Kilclief, Alyson completed the 5k race in a time of 28.22 and Jenny completed the 10K in a time of 50.33. Amazing times, Well Done!
This week there was a lot of parkrun tourism with 57 Striders running in 16 venues with the most popular being Comber Parkrun!
Huge congratulations to Curtis McCaw who placed 3rd at Comber Parkrun.
Well done to the following people who achieved Personal Best’s: Marc Ruddock at Enniskillen Parkrun, Gareth Miskimmmin at Crawfordsburn parkrun and Claire Fowles at Bangor Parkrun. Well done also to Nicola Forsythe and Kim Cochrane who achieved a Course personal best at Montalto Estate Parkrun! Fantastic achievements well done.
On Sunday, There were 7 Juniors running at 3 venues with Comber being the most popular. Huge congratulations to Heath Farrington who achieved 2nd place and Keara Simpson who achieved 2nd Female at Comber Parkrun. Well Done!
A few of our Couch to 5K runners completed their graduation early last Saturday at Stormont Parkrun and Tooting Common Parkrun. The official couch to 5k Graduation will take place this Saturday 18th July at Stormont parkrun, We hope to see many striders there supporting this amazing achievement!
