Legging It at Laganside
The 2017 Pure Running Laganside 10K road race took place on Sunday 3 September 2017. The race started in Ormeau Park on a course that took runners through the park, exiting onto the Ravenhill Road, left over Albert Bridge then along the Lagan towpath to the Ormeau Bridge. Continuing along the Ormeau Embankment, over 1000 runners completed a second lap of the river before crossing the finish line back in Ormeau Park.
We had 26 entrants at the event with Jared Martin first home for the gents in under 38 minutes and first lady finisher Amanda Martin in under 55 minutes. Yes, they are related, Son and Mum! Completing the very flat course in under 50 minutes next came Jonny Kinney, Connor McNamara, Colin Harper, Nigel Martin, David Turton, Graeme McGowan, Sebastian Long and Ian Frazer.
Charles Allen, Gary Clarke, Mark Halus, Paul Moore and George McGonigal completed in under 55 minutes while Linda Dugan, Lyndsey Lappin, Lindsey Allen, Sharon Graham, Nicola McNamara and Kurtis Hunter finished in under an hour. Hot on their heels was Catherine Lavery, Emma Geddis, Karen Clarke, Angie Crone and Steven Craythorne. Well done all.
Just before the start of the 10K, there was a 1 Mile Children’s Fun Race around a circuit within Ormeau Park, with each finisher receiving a medal and a goodie bag. Charles Allen Jnr and Logan Kinney completed the course with ease. The Striders who took part would like to thank the race organisers, marshals, Police, Paramedics and of course the crowds of supporters cheering us on, making 2017 Laganside a great afternoon of running.
